Privacy Policy

The Vine is a small, independent study app. We collect only what we need to make the app work for you, and we do not sell your data. Here is the full picture.

What We Collect

• Account information: Your email address and a securely hashed password when you sign up.
• Study progress: Flashcard status, quiz scores, chapter completion, and study tracker data, so your progress syncs across devices.
• Tasting notes: Any tasting notes you create, including wine details and optional photos you upload.
• Local cache: Some data is also stored in your browser’s localStorage for faster loading. This stays on your device.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used for one purpose: to provide your study experience. Specifically:

• Authenticating your account
• Saving and syncing your progress across devices
• Storing your tasting notes and photos

That’s it. No marketing emails. No behavioral profiling. No ads.

Where Your Data Is Stored

Your data is stored on Supabase, a database service hosted in the US-East (Ohio) region on AWS infrastructure. Data is encrypted at rest and in transit. Photos are stored in Supabase Storage.

Third-Party Services

The Vine uses a small number of third-party services:

• Supabase: Authentication, database, and file storage (their privacy policy)
• Netlify: Website hosting (their privacy policy)
• Google Fonts: Loads the Playfair Display and Inter typefaces. Google may log font requests (their privacy policy)

What We Do NOT Do

• We do not sell or share your personal data with third parties
• We do not use advertising or tracking cookies
• We do not have analytics installed (no Google Analytics, no tracking pixels)
• We do not send marketing emails

Data Retention

Your data is kept for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, your data will be permanently removed from our systems.

Your Rights

You can request to:

• Export your data: We will provide a copy of your stored data
• Delete your account: We will permanently delete your account and all associated data

Age Requirement

The Vine is intended for adults aged 18 and older, consistent with WSET course requirements. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If we learn that a user is under 18, we will delete their account.

Changes to This Policy

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we will notify you through the app. The effective date at the top will always reflect the latest version.
